What Is Second Life?

Is it a game? No, it really isn’t. Anyone who thinks that is sadly mistaken.

It is a life. Granted it is a virtual one but none the less it is a life where you laugh, cry, love, hurt, smile, get angry, get your heart broken or sometimes you are lucky enough to find true love and amazing friendships.

I found the true love and the amazing friendships. People I would never have met mean the world to me in Second Life and in Real Life too.

People say “SL is SL and RL is RL” – I say Bullshit! If you have a great time in Second Life you log off happy, a crap time will leave you logging off upset. You simply cannot keep them separate no matter how hard you try.

Yes, you get game players who think it is fun to play with your emotions, wind you up, hurt you and make several avatars to hide behind but they are losers who don’t deserve my time.

You get people with mental health issues who cannot leave their homes, people with physical illness or disability who struggle in Real Life and ordinary every day folks who want to make friends, interact with others or be creative.

Second Life is a gateway for those who cannot get out, struggle to make friends, feel socially awkward or who just want to meet like minded folks from around the world.

To many it is a life line, a link to the world and to other people – a place where you are accepted and where you do not have to feel lonely.

A place where you find the wonders of the creative people of the world who get to express their artistic talent and flair and an escape, for just a few hours, from the humdrum real life we march though every single day.

It is a Second Life…and I Love Mine and those in it!
